I am hosting a monthly conversation series to explore the role that creativity plays in pushing knowledge beyond what we know in areas of work or study outside of the arts by turning the lens on where, how and when creativity functions for accomplished people across a range of "non-artistic" professions.
The idea for these conversations grew out of a challenge I have continued to see in the many board roles I've held for performing arts organizations and for my University, and out of my own involvement as a producer of events and films. It is the challenge of communicating the value of "art" beyond being a beautiful object or delightful social experience. Creativity is often assumed to be inborn, undefinable and fuzzy, and the rest of us get to enjoy what those lucky enough to have "talent" dream up. But creative thinking is at the very core of excellence in every field known to man, and that’s come through loud and clear in our first Hang Time conversations. I kicked Hang Time off in the sciences with scientists who are GIANTS in their fields, Jeff Bluestone and Dr. Lauren O’Connell. I’m moving on to the field of intelligence gathering with former Army investigator, Emanuel Pleitez, and we’ll be speaking with former CIA analyst Anne Hardiman in May. After that - stay tuned!
The conversations have been enlightening and lively, and you’re welcome to join! Send us a message and we’ll invite you along.
