Inspiration behind CandyBomber
From Founder Kate Duhamel
CandyBomber is about collaboration, and stretching creative partnerships in new directions. You can find out about the various collaborators that came together on our first production, FURY here. We’ve carried our approach forward into our second major production, now in development, called FRAY. Both shows’ four letter titles starting with an “F” is a coincidence, but they also share DNA that focuses on telling stories through innovative collaborations among musicians, dancers and visual artists.
Like the real Candy Bomber (see our blog post here) I hope you will feel like we're dropping delightful packages on you with stories, images, videos and more that are surprising, insightful, and useful. I also love that the Candy Bomber went rogue to do the candy drop for children during the Berlin Airlift, and I want to have that same independent spirit in what we do, breaking convention with how and where our work is made and presented.
Perhaps most of all, I love that the real Candy Bomber showed us that joy is as important to our souls as food is to our bodies. He captured the imagination of his fellow pilots, his superiors, and ultimately of entire nations. His story reminds us that small things can change the course of our lives. His entire life has been fueled by a deeply held belief in the importance of service to others. Now 101 years old, his example is a pretty good recipe for a life-well lived.
Here at CandyBomber, we'd like to keep finding ways to add a little fuel to the embers of inspiration for all of us. You're invited.
