FRAY Jam Mobile Game
The FRAY Video Game is a highly imaginative, rhythm based puzzle game in which the player takes control of Tullio to light the way through a maze-like world of isometric dance puzzles and rhythm based challenges. Along the way, cunning enemies attempt to break the bond between the brothers and seduce Ziya into the underworld forever. By moving to the rhythm and mastering energy-blasting dance routines, Tullio must keep improving his dancing skills to acquire enough energy to carry his ailing brother to the final level’s end - an allegorical home.
Video game developers Herobeat Studios in Barcelona, Spain are building the FRAY Video Game (built in Unreal) which is a single player, rhythm-based, exploration and puzzle game made for PC’s and consoles. A playable demo is available for interested parties.
The FRAY Jam Mobile Game (built in Unity) is a short mobile game, downloadable from app stores for free now. It creates additional links between the FRAY Show and the FRAY Video Game. In a rhythm-based dance challenge that takes video animation from the FRAY Video Game, the player will recognize that his playable character is the same as the main character on stage in the live show, the younger brother Tullio.
The FRAY Live Show weaves Tullio and Ziya’s story through a vibrant tapestry of live music, hip hop dance and large screen visuals that portraythe video games they love and the worlds in which they live. The FRAY Video Game and FRAY Jam mobile game both appear in the live show when, in their late teens, the the brothers enter successive game jam contests to build video games.
The Story
In the story, the two brothers not only play games throughout their adolescence and teens, but also eventually enter a contest to build their own video game. They put themselves into their game as characters who take up challenges they encounter in real life. The FRAY Video Game is a real version of the fictional game the brothers are building in the story. Dance fuels the FRAY project, and is at the heart of the video game too. The player will step directly into Tullio’s shoes, learning dance moves and sequences in order to avoid obstacles, solve puzzles and dance battle enemies. He will receive protection and guidance early on from the non-playable older brother character Ziya, and like the story on stage, experience his loss as Ziya gradually weakens, lured away by dark forces as they progress through the game’s four levels. The player will have to step up his dancing skills further, taking the lead to acquire enough energy to carry Ziya to the final destination, an allegorical home.
