FRAY Show Evolves!

The all new FRAY Show premiered at Sadler’s Wells, Lilian Baylis Theatre, June 21-22, 2024.

The new FRAY Show premiered to sold out crowds at Sadler’s Wells Lilian Baylis Theatre in June. FRAY pushed to the forefront of hip hop dance theatre, adding spoken word, rap and dialogue, and ventured into the virtual with “Lucious,” a digital AI character who speaks, raps, dances and battles with the real life characters on stage. The new FRAY prompted a burst of new music too, with tracks from Soweto Kinch, Micall Parknsun, Rommal Arasa, and other beat makers.

FRAY picks up Tullio and Ziya’s story in their late teens as their brotherly bond unravels when Ziya is lured into a spellbinding virtual world by Lucious, an AI character he “prompted” into existence for help for a video game contest.  The contest calls for building a great puzzle game, but as Ziya's growing illusion blurs his line between the real and virtual, the brothers are drawn into a real-life quandary in which restoring the frayed connections of their relationship means confronting the reality that people are the greatest puzzles of all.  Tullio and Ziya struggle with what it means to love a brother, and with the very nature of what it means to be human.

The FRAY Video Game

Releasing on Steam and the Epic Game Store November 3.

In addition to the live hip hop dance theater show, the FRAY team has taken up Ziya's challenge in the story by developing a video game for PC's, currently in development.  FRAY Game is an imaginative, rhythm based puzzle game in which the player takes control of Tullio to light the way through a maze-like world of isometric dance puzzles and rhythm based challenges. Along the way, cunning enemies attempt to break the bond between the brothers and seduce Ziya into the underworld forever. By moving to the rhythm and mastering energy-blasting dance routines, Tullio must keep improving his dancing skills to acquire enough energy to carry his ailing brother to the final level’s end - an allegorical home.

Built on Unreal.

“FRAY Jam” - A Mobile App Too

CandyBomber brings to life one of the games the brothers build in their teens in the story - a short mobile game called “FRAY Jam,” creating additional links between the FRAY Show and the FRAY Video Game. Available for free in app stores now, “FRAY Jam” invites audiences to play the game on their mobile devices before the show in a dance-based challenge that takes characters and animation from the FRAY Video Game. Players must stay on the beat and match the moves of the challenger rats. Built on Unity.

FRAY Jam is available for free in app stores now:
